A little more driving today. We reached where we were staying a little before 4 p.m. The rec. center isn't open on weekends so we had to pick our key up for our rooms at the 24 hour police station. The directions were great and we found it easily enough. As we went toward the back of the building, one of the girls tried the door and said it was locked. We went to the next one and it was open so we went down the stairs. We walked by a cell and approached a room where several officers were behind a closed door. Oh my heck, they all scrambled to get to the door and find out who we were. One of them asked me how we got in the building and I said, "We opened the door." Kind of an obvious answer but it was that simple. They said it should have been locked. It turned out the one we thought was locked wasn't and 2 officers went and locked the one that we came in.
We had a bit of a snafu with our rooms. They reserved two rooms and while they left 2 envelopes at the station with keys, they were both for the same room and said they were. They left a message for the person that handles reservations and we couldn't access the other room until they had confirmed we did indeed reserve it. We went to Times Square and walked around. It was crazy busy, as always. Stephanie was happy to go into a 3-story M&M store there.
We went back to lodging knowing we would all be in the same room but it worked out fine until a group of people showed up at 11:45 with keys to both the rooms we had reserved. We thought they must have double-booked the place and we stayed in our room and they used the other.
