Bunny Whisperer

A little story for you before I begin with today.  Last Friday Jessica came to me at my aunt's house and told me she was worried about Skittles.  She said she texted her friend and hadn't heard back and she knew something was wrong.  I told her she could call but she didn't want to but she was sure something was wrong with Skittles.

Fast forward to today (Wednesday).

I'm on the phone with Rad and she came to tell me that she was worried because the bunny hasn't been eating or drinking today.  There is still papaya in the bowl.  Skittles is a pig when it comes to papaya.  He gobbles it up before the food.  Kind of like a kid with the marshmallows in the Lucky Charms cereal eating all the marshmallows and leaving the cereal.  Rad said to give it a day or two and see what happens.  After we hung up, I got some lettuce for Skittles because he loves, loves, loves it.  He did nothing.  Showed no interest.  I called the vet and we ended up leaving immediately to go to an appointment.
They looked Skittles over and felt that he was blocked but took an x-ray to confirm what they believed.  (The picture at the top of the post is the x-ray that Steph took a picture of.)  The x-ray showed gas and fluid that was a very large mass.  They gave him some antibiotic, pain killer and something else to help his GI tract to get going.  We brought Skittles back home and then we went to the other side of town to pick up 2 of the meds that the vet didn't have.  We stopped at the store to buy some pineapple juice and baby food to feed him.
We gave him a syringe of pineapple juice before leaving for church.  When we came home he was drinking from his water bottle.  When we returned from church, he ate a little over half a syringe of carrot baby food. Jessica saw him eat some hay and I believe his papaya is gone now.  He is already on the mend but he has to be watched closely because he can take a turn for the worse quickly and if not dealt with quickly enough it will start to affect his liver.  We are glad that we took him today instead of waiting.
Jessica dubbed herself a "bunny whisperer" because she is that in tune with Skittles to know that something was wrong when we were on our trip.
